Hola!

I am the worst blogger. About once a month I vow to blog more faithfully.
And then a week goes by before I blog again.
It is amazing how the time goes so quickly when all you want to do is play and snuggle with your baby. Who can blame me? Look at this girl:

I LOVE THIS FACE!!!

Chillin' in the Bumbo
If you look closely you might be able to see that I combed her hair this day! It won't stay long before it springs back into the craziness that we are used to on her head. It's long enough to comb... it just won't stay put. She seems to prefer the finger-in-light-socket look.
I have to admit that her hair combed over to the side was so silly looking to me that I laughed out loud every time I looked at it. That's good for self-esteem, you know - hysterical laughing every time the mother looks at the child. Oh Eliana... the fun you have to look forward to!
When the television is on this girl zones out

So, I've been having a lot of questions lately about typical baby stuff and thought this would be a good place to seek advice from my smarter-than-me imaginary blog friends.
Topic of the night: Sleep. Naptime sleep, in particular.
How well do your kids nap?
Eliana is 9 months old, and developmentally I'd say 6-7 months. She is not really a great napper. She will fall asleep in our arms, usually after a bottle, but only sleep for 15-30 minutes if we lay her down. If we hold her while she naps she will sleep 1 1/2 hours - but we can't always do that (there is laundry to be done, you know). She tends to get pretty cranky as bedtime approaches, and I think she could be happier through the evening if she had a good nap each day instead of just the little catnaps. Any ideas? What works for your kids at naptime?

OOOH my goodness Jenny I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you read my mind!!! Where do I start--okay I feel like I say the same thing weekly-- I promise to be a better blogger and then bam we get sick and another week flies by!!! --and like you said who can resist the snuggling?!!! I will tell you my hubby says I am spoiling her but --at night after I put her to bed (this is when I used to blog-- at night!)-- I will go get her and hold her and watch a tv show with the fireplace on (she is sound asleep but I love just holding her!) call me cheezy but does it get any better?!!! :o)

--Okay--you are sent from heaven I was going to post something about naptime too!!! We are struggling here! My babycake won't nap either unless I hold her!! The foster mother told us she was held all day-- I would really love too but there are times that I just can't --especially if Caleb doesn't have preschool that day!!! I have tried everything--but as soon as I lay here down about 15-20 minutes later she is back up and you can tell she wants so badly to go back to sleep so most of the time she just sleeps on me! I am going to try my carrier again --one of my friends suggested that I try darkening shades for her room--and an air purifier for her room --the purifier is just really a noise blocker to block out any noise she may hear from Caleb or me.--I will have to let you know--but if you have any ideas please tell me!!! I will be checking back --I am anxious to see what people say!!!

Your babycake is so so so so beautiful in her little bumbo!!!!! hugs to you!!!!

Mikayla WAS a good napper in Guat and then we came home and it got bad for awhile. She is very congested still, has been ever since we got her, we are now suspecting allergies, but that is not what this is about...LOL. Back to the topic...she wakes herself up sometimes due to the congestion. Here are the things that we have tried that have WORKED with Mikayla. She has a Fisher Price Aquarium thing on her crib that lights up and plays music. It was Alec's when he was a baby but they sell a newer one now. She will fall asleep in our arms and then would wake when we put her down. With the music and lights she seems to settle back down and will sleep. She takes a GOOD 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon and then about 2 30 minute naps a day. THe key was getting her on a STRICT schedule also. We also give her her bottle right before nap. A full belly equals a tired baby. Also we have a air purifier and I can tell you that helped a lot. The sound of it helps and we did add room darkening shades that also seemed to help. I also found that when we would put her down and she would cry and we would get her back up and rock her back that that would help. Even if we had to do it four times before she would sleep soundly in her crib. I hope all of this makes sense. It really is trial and error. Mikayla is very easy-going and so it was pretty easy but if she doesn't nap well she is grumpy. Also..make sure she is not teething which at this stage in the game I am sure she is. Teething will keep her up. Tylenol before her nap IF I know her teeth are bothering her helps. But we only give it when we KNOW they are bothering her a lot. OK...I wrote a book as well. LOL.
Hugs

Love the picture of her chilling in her bumbo! We bought our son a "sleep machine thingy" (we got it at Walmart in the pharmacy section for like $15 but you can pay a lot more for more high tech ones) and it's been great for naps. There are nine different settings (waterfall, bubbling stream, rain, etc.) and you can have it on until you turn it off or you can set it to turn off after an hour. The air purifier will probably achieve the same purpose though. When I started consistently laying him in his crib with the background noise his naps stretched out longer and longer....but it is hard not to hold them because they are so beautiful to look at when they are sleeping. Nothing more precious than a sleeping baby!

Our guy is six months old and he naps about an hour or so in the morning (around 10), a good 2-3 hours in the afternoon (around 1), and then a catnap before dinner around 6. We've moved him around to different places to get him solidly on that schedule, and mostly we just try to keep the big afternoon nap constant, the others vary on the day. We've found that putting him in the middle of our king size bed with some classical music on gets him the most sleep. Lying with him in the beginning helped him to relax and make it a comfortable spot for him. All other naps happen in a bouncy chair in whatever room we're in. Good luck! Schedule is key.
