Tidbits

Abigia is pretty well potty trained! That was an unexpected surprise. Eliana goes with us to the potty most of the time, so maybe this will spark her interest in getting out of diapers. While Abigia is sitting Eliana tries to sit on her lap. Tries very hard, as a matter of fact, despite Abigia pushing her away and me (laughing hysterically) pulling Eliana off of Abigia.

A couple of people asked how we are communicating. The answer: comically! Eldana knows a little bit of English (numbers, ABC's, body parts, that kind of thing). Abigia pretty much only knew Mommy and thank you. We learned a little bit of Amharic before we went and then learned more while we were there. Otherwise, there are lots of charades, pointing and demonstration. It hasn't been a big problem. The toughest time as far as communication goes is when Eldana is feeling sad and I don't know what to say to comfort her. Sometimes hugs are the best I can do.

Here are some pics you haven't seen yet:

This was sent to us in Feb by another American Mom that visited Horizon House.

Eldana on our first morning home.

It's hard to get a good picture of Abigia because she's always busy, busy, busy.

This was one of the referral pictures

This picture of Abigia is from March, a couple of weeks before we went over. Her hair has grown out a lot already. I love it short. She looks so cute with short little curls all over. Wonder if she'd let me cut it and keep it short a while.....

Friends and family that we haven't seen yet: Don't feel slighted or take it personally. We're trying to limit stimulation and too many new people at one time. On top of that, every day has flown by and is gone before we realize it. If we've not returned a call or a message, please don't be offended. If you haven't gotten to see us yet, don't take it as a personal affront. Give us a call (or 2) and we'll be glad to know you're thinking of us! Remind us that you'd like to meet the girls and we'll do our best to make that happen.
Thanks!

Love the pics! Now, can you provide help (phoenetic spelling, maybe?) as to how to pronounce the girls' names? I want to be sure I say them correctly, even if it is only in my head.

Hope you guys are having a great week!

Sweet photos. I love Eliana's look in the high chair behind Eldana. And the static from the slide photo is a riot.

Enjoy your house full of girls and giggles!
