Hip, Hip...........
Hooray! We got good news today!
After nearly 2 weeks of trying to get some info, we received (via email) the report from Eliana's echocardiogram. Yes, it was in Spanish, but our amazing detective skills helped us decipher what the doctor had to say.
The gist of it is that Eliana has 2 holes in her heart. This makes normal cardiac operations not as efficient as they should be. They are currently treating her with medication and it is possible that with a little more time the holes may shrink and/or close up. It is also possible that she may need to have heart surgery at some point if they do not close and continue to cause problems. If this becomes necessary, we are hoping it won't be til after she is home, in Wheeling, where we can take care of her and get her the best care.
The specific diagnoses given are patent ductus arteriosus and a permeable foramen ovale.
We are feeling good about this. Not that these are inconsequential or without the possibility of complications.... but last week we were being given some pretty bad possible scenarios. There were a few days where we were seriously wondering if we would ever get to bring Eliana home. Now we feel confident that we will. Things might just be a little different than we first envisioned.
Although she's still in the hospital, we are hoping she'll be released any day now. The next step will be getting our butts on a plane to go meet our daughter for the first time! It's so strange to miss someone you've never met.

Yeah! Glad little Eliana is doing well...hope you two get to go see her soon!
YAY! So happy to hear the good news that Eliana is doing better and will be getting out of the hospital soon. Yes, a PDA is still serious, but the GREAT news is that here in the US, they can close it through a heart cath, which means that she probably won't have to have surgery!!!! YAY, YAY, YAY!!!
Just found this blog and I see Eliana was born on my birthday! Us Geminis are tough, you'll see!!
Our babies are 6 days apart, maybe we'll meet up at some point in Guatemala :)
Congratulations!!
